Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto
On December 4, 2022, St. Mark parishioners together with clergy and in the presence of Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, witnessed the unveiling and blessing of the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto at the parish grounds.
Inspired by the special visitation of Our Lady to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858 in France, the grotto honors Mary, our model of faith, the Virgin of the Visitation and Queen of Peace. It is a reminder that in Mary’s visitation, we see the fatherly concern of God who never abandons his people and who cares for the lowly and the excluded.
The stone Grotto is a modest recreation of the grotto in Lourdes, France housing the statue of Our Lady and St. Bernadette kneeling before her. The surrounding area lends a calming environment with engraved brick pavers, turf grass and a water feature.
Visit the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto any day of the year. It is a beautiful and peaceful retreat, a place of prayer and reflection, and a refreshing venue for outdoor mass and worship services.
